Andy Irons
Name: Andy Irons
Profession: Pro Surfer
Birth Date: July 24, 1978
Current Residence: Hanalei, Kauai/USA
ON TOP OF HIS GAME
Andy Irons hates losing more than Superman hates Kryptonite. He hates losing at tennis, he hates losing at golf, he hates losing at backgammon, he hates losing at ping pong, he hates losing—period.
Maybe that’s why AI’s drive in competitive surfing is unrelenting—he completely dominated the WCT (World Championship Tour) in 2002, 2003, and 2004. Andy’s the only professional surfer who’s won three world titles in two consecutive years. The year 2003 proved to be Andy’s year as he won the Pipeline Masters, the Triple Crown Of Surfing, and the WCT world title—a feat that’s still unmatched to this day. To top 2003 off, AI was awarded the highest honor a professional surfer can receive—he was inducted into the Surfing Hall Of Fame. Can you say “living legend?”
What you might not know is that Andy Irons is funny. Does that shock you? You’ve seen him surf and his animalistic abilities might make you think he’s an intense frothing madman on land—he is intense—but if you’ve ever had the chance to hang with him, you’ll quickly find out that he loves nothing more than to laugh and chill on a porch with his friends. Andy is all about having fun and it shows through in his demeanor on land. In the water, he’s still that stoked little kid who enjoys to dork around while surfing less-than-perfect surf with some buddies.
GIVING BACK
Other than being a great surfer, you should also know that Andy is a philanthropist. Every year, Andy and his brother Bruce give back to the young surfing community on his home island of Kauai by throwing a free event for all the Menehunes on the island—spreading aloha while helping the little ones catch the surf bug in the process. The event goes off each time at Pine Trees (their local spot) in great surf and everyone goes home a champion. The Irons brothers know their roots and are always there for the kids, rain or shine.
SPREADING THE NEWS
As far as magazine and video coverage go—come on, Andy gets around (in a good way). He’s won the TransWorld Business Expos-o-meter, (a contest which tallies up a years worth of magazine exposure from TransWorld SURF, Surfer, and Surfing magazine) twice—meaning he’s one of the most photographed, advertised, and “exposed” surfers on the planet. It should also be noted that Andy ended Kelly Slater’s nine-year reign as Surfer magazine’s Surfer of the Year in 2002 and 2003, thus solidifying himself as one of the surfing world’s elite. Keep on the lookout for “Mr. Consistency” gracing the cover of a surf mag near you.
A DYNASTY IN THE MAKING
Now that we’ve let you in on a little secret, let’s talk about what really makes Andy one of the world’s best surfers, and a three-time world champ. It’s his brutal attack on a surfboard—a madman approach to cavernous tubes coupled with his ability to stick gigantic airs over the most hazardous sections of the world’s most deadly waves. You already know he’s a three-time world champ, you already know he’s taken Kelly Slater out more than a few times, and if you know Andy, you can rest assured that he’ll be on top of the heap of the world’s best surfers for years to come.

First, congrats to Mick on a hell of a year. In the last couple of months I've just been getting ready for the 2008 campaign. The boards are looking good, I'm amped, can't wait.
